(Photo by Pattanapong Hirunard)Police from the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) will be deployed on Bangkok roads in the early hours of Monday as they expect traffic congestion on the first day of the new academic year. Most schools across the country will open on Monday and the MPB has identified 29 schools in the capital to brace for traffic jams on Monday morning. Pol Maj Gen Jirapat Phumjit, the MPB deputy commander in charge of traffic in Bangkok, said on Sunday that MPB police will join their counterparts in all Bangkok stations to direct traffic flow at all 29 schools since 5.30am on Monday. Students going to schools by public transport or in their parents' private cars are advised to arrive at the schools by 7.30am to avoid traffic gridlock.
